'Millennium' captured in waxwork

Dubai: Dubai Millennium, Godolphin's greatest racehorse, has been remembered by a new life-size waxwork which was unveiled yesterday morning at the Godolphin Gallery in Nad Al Sheba Racecourse.
The statue, commissioned by Dubai International Capital and modelled by Madame Tussauds in London, is a gift to His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum unveiled the artwork at the Godolphin Gallery.
The waxwork recreates the memorable moment when Dubai Millennium, ridden by Frankie Dettori, won the 2000 Dubai World Cup in a record time of 1 minute 59.50 seconds.
Dubai Millennium tragically died from grass sickness on April 29, 2001.
Simon Crisford, Godolphin's racing manager, commented: "This tremendous portrait is an invaluable addition to the Gallery and represents everything that Godolphin stands for."
Saeed Bin Surour, who trained Dubai Millennium, is delighted with the tribute. "It will help preserve his memory," he said.
