Dubai: The markets for next year’s British Classics received a bit of a shake up following the victories of Clemmie and US Navy Flag on the final day of Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire Meeting on Saturday.

Clemmie, a full sister to dual Guineas sensation Churchill, was cut to 5/1 for the 1,000 Guineas (G1) following her victory in the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket.

Meanwhile US Navy Flag was introduced at 33/1 for the 2,000 Guineas on May 5 2018, a market that is headed by Goodwood Vintage Stakes (G2) scorer Expert Eye,

Ryan Moore, regarded by many as the best jockey in Europe, was full of praise for Clemmie and told Racing UK: “She’s very, very high-class and travelled beautifully throughout. It was a messy sort of race, but she always had herself in the right position and always felt in control.

“T believe there’s more to come. She’s improved from every start and I’d say she’ll continue to do so.”

Winning handler O’Brien added: “I’m delighted with her. She’s a full-sister to Churchill and is a filly who has been progressing with every run.

“To be showing that kind of class over six furlongs, you’d be over the moon. She’s very much like Churchill — she’s right in his mould. She has a great mind and plenty of speed and nothing worries her.

“She would have the option of going to America (for the Breeders’ Cup)”.

This time it was Seamie Heffernan who did the honours aboard US Nave Flag in the Middle Park Stakes holding off Donnacha O’Brien aboard stablemate Fleet Review.

Mark Johnston’s Cardsharp, who is owned by shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, was third.

Heffernan said: “It was no surprise he ran well. I thought Ryan (Moore, on Sioux Nation) was the danger, but his horse is big and could have been a little bit weak. My lad is out of a Galileo mare.

“He’s a horse that’s a bit gawky and looks around, so the blinkers helped him to focus and make my job a lot easier.

O’Brien said: “This is a very solid horse, he’s is out of a Galileo mare and they just don’t give up. He takes his racing well and is progressing with every outing.

“He is long and powerful. I think he will go down the sprinting route, but there is nothing to say he won’t get more.

“He is a hard horse that is progressing nicely and when horses are like that, you can keep going with them. He might go to the Dewhurst.

“Seamie said he really wanted it and when he asked him, his head went out and down. It is great for everyone and there’s a lot of hard work by a great team of people.”
