Electrocutionist on course for Saturday's King George
Electrocutionist is on target for Saturday's £750,000 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot.
Dubai: Electrocutionist is on target for Saturday's £750,000 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot.
Godolphin's Dubai World Cup winner came through his latest piece of work with flying colours and trainer Saeed Bin Surour reported: "He worked nicely and it's a case of so far, so good."
Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford added: "We were pleased with the way Electrocutionist worked and he is on course for the King George."
Godolphin have a good record in the race, having won it five times in the past with Lammtarra (1995), Swain ('97-98), Daylami ('99) and Doyen ('04).
Italian import Electrocutionist is a 5/2 second favourite to French raider Hurricane Run (5/4). The five-year-old found Ouija Board too strong in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot last month after being behind in work at the time.
He has since improved in leaps and bounds and demonstrated his form with a smart piece of work under stable jockey Frankie Dettori.
Bin Surour commented: "The horse was finishing so strongly when winning the Dubai World Cup and was still fighting on in the Prince of Wales's last time. So the return to a mile and a half shouldn't be a problem."
"This was his main work and he will just have to have another good blow-out before the race now."
This year's King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, Britain's premier all-aged middle-distance contest. has attracted 36 high-class entries.
Among them are the first four colts home in last month's Epsom Derby - Sir Percy, Dragon Dancer, Dylan Thomas and Hala Bek - in addition to 2005 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero Hurricane Run and Japan's Heart's Cry, winner of the Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic at Nad Al Sheba in March.
Sir Michael Stoute, who has won the King George with Shergar (1981), Opera House ('93) and Golan ('02), has entered five horses including Derby sixth Best Alibi, Chester Vase winner Papal Bull, Maraahel, Mountain High and Hard Top.
