Eight top runners for UAE races

His highness President of UAE series for purebred horses will kick off in Chantilly.

Abu Dhabi: The His Highness President of the UAE Series for purebred Arabian horses kicks off on Sunday in Chantilly, France, with eight top runners in the fray.

Also on the card of nine races to be held at this historic race coursee are two races with UAE connections, both for thoroughbred horses.

The Etihad Airways Prix Jean Prat (Group 1) for three-year-olds and the 2,000-metre Prix D'Abu Dhabi ( Prix Ville Chantilly) handicap for four-year-olds have also attracted strong fields promising some exciting racing in Chantilly today.

The line-up for the Group I President of the UAE Cup for Purebred Arabians includes Forgehill Cezanne, owned by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Harb, owned by Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Emirates Racing Authority.

The other runners in the UAE President's Cup are Nieshan, Raqiyah, Vizir des Cedres, Altobello, Danawi and Salma Thabeth.

The $560,000 Prix Jean Prat, a Group 1 mile for three-year-old colts, sponsored by Etihad Airways, has also attracted a strong field with the unbeaten Irian from Germany taking on Lord Shanakill, which was third behind Sea the Stars in the 2000 Guineas last month.

Having won all three of his career starts, Irian, a son of Tertullian trained by Jens Hirschberger, will be partnered by Stephane Pasquier in this battle which is a big step up in class for the German raider.

Trainer Karl Burke feels Lord Shanakill has improved from his fine run at Ascot and said, "Everything has gone according to plan. He travelled really well."

Others in the competition for this Group 1 race which was won last year by Tamayuz owned by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance - are Westphalia (Ireland), Oiseau De Feu (US), Handsome Maestro (Ireland), Calvados Blues (France), Feels All Right (Ireland, Indomito (Germany) and Milanais (France).

The 2,000-metre Prix D'Abu Dhabi (Prix Ville Chantilly) handicap for four-year-old thoroughbred horses has a field of 18 horses including Heavenly Light (Ireland), My Call (France), Irishia (France), Crumpett (Ireland), Queenwell (France), Vittoria Vetra (Great Britain), Miss Stream (France), Eire (Great Britain), Moonlight Danceuse (Ireland), Al Tottara (France), Rymi (Ireland), Textolie (France), Fleur Enchantee (France), Nostaltir (France), Tiger Cliff (France), Joly Nelsa (France), Penkinella (France) and Silent Approach (France).
