Dubai: The grandstand of Dubai's first ever horseracing city has entered initial construction stages, officials announced on Sunday.
Meydan, an iconic project that aims to become one of the world's landmark horseracing venues, has started construction on the first and mezzanine floors of the Meydan Racecourse Grandstand, less than a year after the project was first revealed to the public.
The grandstand is expected to have a seating capacity of more than 60,000 people and will include unique features including a luxury hotel and a museum and gallery.
Work on other aspects of the project is also underway. Meydan is expected to be completed in time for Dubai World Cup in March 2010.
