Abu Dhabi: Abu Alemarat scored his fifth successive win and in the bargain humbled the favourite Shadiyda in the Hydra Silver Cup, the feature event in yesterday's race meeting at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club.
Under the care of new trainer Rod Simpson at the Al Asayel Stables, the four-year-old colt, ridden by Daragh O'Donohoe, grabbed the opening between Dayan and Baher to power home to a good win, his fifth this year and first of the new season.
Eric Lemartinel, who completed a double on the night along with jockey Gerald Avranche, was deprived in the feature event with Shadiyda and Baher finishing behind Abu Alemarat.
It was Abu Alemarat's fifth win in seven starts and Simpson said he would run his promising colt in the President's Cup.
"When I took charge he was a bit on the fatter side, but we worked on him and the blinkers, being used for the first time, also seemed to help," said Simpson.
Earlier Lemartinel started the meeting with a bang when Avranche on Alama did well to stave off AF Rakiza's challenge by a head in a 00-50 Conditions race.
Later after Shadiyda's loss, Lemartinel and Avranche starred in another winning partnership when Remal demolished her rivals in the Hydra Challenge Trophy.
Remal won by over seven lengths with UAE jockey Ahmad Ajtebi on AF Mutamakenah finishing second in the 00-70 Handicap for UAE-bred horses.
Ted Durcan, who missed the first two meetings here, opened his account when he steered the Gillian Duffield-trained Muntaliq home in the second race.
With Jaxy King (Royston Ffrench astride) running wide after leading into the home stretch, Durcan kept Muntaliq straight and simple to win by half a length.
The Nizamuddin Fakhruddin-trained CS Patriarch under Chris Taylor scored his second win in eight days here and his eighth in a 33-race career.
