Payne lifts Sharjah Men's Open Golf trophy

Victory came after a two hole sudden death playoff

Sharjah: Professional Simon Payne of Tower Links Golf Club won the second Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club (SGSC) Men's Open Golf Championship after a two hole sudden death playoff with fellow Professional Richard Sheridan of Al Badia Golf Club.

Sheridan, playing in the last group in the final found himself at level par through 35 holes. Payne was in the penultimate group and had finished his round as Sheridan teed off from his 36th hole.

Payne had posted a 36 hole total of 143 (1 under par) and watched as the Englishman hit a pitching wedge to within inches of the final hole en-route to a birdie 3 and an identical total score.

The sudden death playoff was then played over a repeated loop of the 18th hole. Third place went to Asian Tour Professional Simon Dunn.

Event sponsors were Sharjah Airport International Free Zone and The Times Newspaper.
