Monty's name crops up for captaincy
Though Colin Montgomerie is keen to make it to Ryder's Cup team as a player, speculation is rife that the most successful player on the European Tour circuit could become Ryder Cup captain sooner than later.
Abu Dhabi: Though Colin Montgomerie is keen to make it to Ryder's Cup team as a player, speculation is rife that the most successful player on the European Tour circuit could become Ryder Cup captain sooner than later.
Montgomerie, who scored five under par 67 yesterday, did not reveal much to the probing scribes here, though as one of the committee members he did attend a meeting on Tuesday here over the captaincy issue.
"I don't know what the situation is," he said. "It would be an honour to be selected, but we are no further forward with the selection process," he said adding, "I will have to let you know if it has been offered or not. At this stage it has not."
With Europe having lost to the US last year, there is great interest being evinced in the captaincy and the Committee will be meeting in Dubai in two weeks time to perhaps finalise Nick Faldo's successor.
