Dubai: Vikrant Mehra shot a sizzling 41 points to win the India Independence Day golf tournament.
The tournament, which was organised by the Indian Golfers Society, was held at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club.
On a day when searing heat made life difficult for golfers, Mehra scored points on almost all holes to take the overall winner's title.
Long-hitting Biren Dey showed his striking power in Division A where he scored 36 points, finishing two ahead of Ashok Kumar.
Third place in Division A went to Kush Sama who signed for 33 points.
In Division B, Anand Kapoor beat Ishu Rupani on countback to finish runner-up to Vikram Mehra on 36 points.
The biggest cheers of the day were reserved for veteran Vikram Judge who took the coveted gross title with 33 points.
Gurjit Grewal, who recently turned 60, also made his presence felt in the strong field by winning the best senior trophy for players 55 and above.
The 60-year-old, who was seemingly inspired by the consistent play of his playing partner Vikram Judge, carded a brilliant 36 points.
Hardish Pannu showed her class in the ladies division, winning top prize with an impressive 36 points.
Nearest to pin
The nearest to the pin prizes went to Sudhir Vora and Alok Pant while Miki Mirza and Mehtab Ali Syed walked away with the longest drive prizes.
The tournament, which marked the start of the Indian Golfers Society's season, once again attracted a full field.
The prizes were presented by Indian Consul-General Venu Rajamony in the company of Sudesh Aggarwal, the chairman of the Indian Golfers Society.
