Dubai: Robin Kadyan carded solid 40 points to win the Orient Travel Golf Challenge, to be played for the first time at the Els Club at the Dubai Sports City.

Playing some consistent golf from tee to green, Robin scored points on almost all holes to edge his closest challenger Rena Sethi by one point. Abhijit Baruah finished a creditable third on 38 points.

Robin and Abhijit were also instrumental in guiding their four-player team to victory. The team which also included Sung Steve Woo Han and Mrs Han tallied a staggering 90 points to finish five points ahead of the second-placed team of Aamer Zaidi, Asim Arshad, Paul Scott and Shyam Bhatia.

The all-women team of Rena Sethi, Srilatha Reddy, Satnam Kaur and Madhu Bhatia took the third place.

The Orient Travel Golf Challenge provided the players with an opportunity to experience the elegant layout of the Els Course for the first time and they all enjoyed the day in the sun.

Bit different

"It's a bit different than other courses in the UAE. The landing areas are wide and they narrow down when you approach the green," said one enthusiast.

"Players of all levels will enjoy playing on this course - only if you can avoid deep green-side bunkers," he added. The response to the tournament was simply overwhelming, making it difficult for the organisers to accommodate all the players in the draw.

Shaikh Faisal Bin Khalid Al Qasimi, chairman of Orient Travel, presented the prizes.

Madhu Bhatia won the longest drive prize while the nearest to the pin prizes went to Ben Shaw and Vipen Sethi.
