Dubai Spain's Tania Elosegui stormed into contention at the Dubai Ladies Masters when she came up with the shot of the day during a topsy-turvy round two at Emirates Golf Club Thursday.

The 28-year-old used a seven-iron to tame the 160-yard par-three seventh to claim the second hole-in-one of her career. The hole-in-one was just one of the few highlights of her round Thursday.

Starting on the 10th tee and six shots off the pace set by overnight leader Maria Hjorth, who carded an opening round of six-under 66, Elosegui picked up a shot on the 12th. She bogeyed the 14th, but recovered well by undoing the damage on the 15th and 16th.

Those birdies were followed by another bogey immediately after the turn on the first, but three more birdies and the eagle on the third helped her finish tied third alongside Korea's Amy Yang on six-under 66, three behind day two leader In-Kyung Kim.

Speaking of her hole in one, Elosegui, who had an even-par 72 on the first day, said: "I just hit it — it was a little bit downwind from the left. When I hit the ball, the impact was not that good, but the ball went straight into the pin after pitching about two yards short of the hole."

The ABN AMRO Ladies Masters Open winner was hoping to get some much-needed rest before today's third round.

"Overall, it was a great round, but I am still feeling very, very tired after flying in from the States," said Elosegui, who arrived just a few hours before her first round tee time on Wednesday.

"Of course, I would like to have a good weekend, but for that to happen, I need to sleep well."
