Victory means nothing: Metsu

Dubai: Bruno Metsu kept his feet firmly on the ground after the UAE's 2-1 victory against Stuttgart, saying the result would mean nothing when the Gulf Cup kicked off.

The French coach played down any expectations that may have been raised for next week's tournament held in Abu Dhabi.

He said: "It was a friendly but we're always happy to get a positive result because we played well.

"But there's no possible comparison between this game and the upcoming games in the Gulf Cup. This was a friendly match and that is a competition between nations so the games will be very, very different."

And despite a number of stellar attacking performances, most notably from energetic captain Mohammad Omar, Metsu would not single out any individual players.

"For me the whole team played well," Metsu said.

"I can't say any one, two or three players in particular. That's for other people to say. The players all defended and attacked as one and gave us options all over the field.

"We worked hard during the training camp on the tactical side of things and I thought the defence did well for the team.

"If we learned anything that's only for me to know. But it was a good opportunity to play a good European team and the game will give the players confidence which is good."
