UAQ, Ajman rulers reward Gulf Cup champions

Shaikh Humaid lauds team for sportsmanship

Umm Al Quwain: His Highness Shaikh Saud Bin Rashid Al Mualla, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Quwain, has ordered the payment of Dh10 million as a bonus to the members of the UAE national football team in appreciation to their winning the 21st Gulf Cup championship in Bahrain.

His Highness Shaikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, earlier ordered a payment of Dh7 million to the team.

The orders were given when the UAE team met separately yesterday with Shaikh Saud and Shaikh Humaid.

During a meeting with the team, Shaikh Saud praised the support provided to the sport sector by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates.

Shaikh Saud praised the team’s performance for a well-deserved victory. He also praised the role of the technical staff in harnessing the capabilities of the team, as well as the efforts of the UAE Football Association officials that accompanied the team and were led by Yousuf Al Sarkal, President of UAEFA. Shaikh Rashid Bin Saud Bin Rashid Al Mualla, Crown Prince of Umm Al Quwain, was also present during the meeting.

Shaikh Saud told the team that this victory should spur them towards greater achievements and success at higher levels.

In a separate meeting with the players, Shaikh Humaid extended his congratulations to the UAE leadership citizens, and expatriates on the UAE team’s win. Shaikh Humaid praised the sportsmanship displayed by the players during their games in the Gulf Cup which played a key role behind their victory. He told the team that their sportsmanship was a source of pride for the country and was praised by everyone, making them role models for the other teams that participated in the championship.

He expressed confidence that this generation of players will continue their march of excellence, adding that the team deserves all the plaudits for their level of performance and meeting expectations. He praised the management and efforts of Emirati coach Mahdi Ali, a former national team player himself.
