UAE team wins Asian Youth Championships

The UAE Under-19 team made football history on Friday when they defeated Uzbekistan 2-1 to win the Asian Youth Championships in Saudi Arabia.

Dubai: The UAE Under-19 team made football history on Friday when they defeated Uzbekistan 2-1 to win the Asian Youth Championships in Saudi Arabia.

It is the first time that the Under-19 team has won an Asian title.

Striker Ahmad Khaleel, the younger brother of UAE national team player Faisal Khalil, scored both the goals.

The UAE beat hosts Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the quarterfinals and Australia 3-0 in the semifinals.

Prince Sultan Bin Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz, President of the Saudi Arabian Football Association, gave away the trophy to Hamdan Kamali, the skipper of the UAE team.

Club’s Khalifa Bin Zayed Stadium on Saturday. Al Kamali opened the account for the hosts with a penalty in the 21st minute, followed by another spot kick converted by Mohammad Al Shhehi in the 29th minute. Ismail Al Hammadi then completed the tally in the 80th minute of the match.
