UAE's Khalil nominated Young Player of Year
The UAE and Al Ahli teenage sensation Ahmad Khalil has been named on the shortlist for the Aisan Football Confederation Youth Player of the Year.
Dubai: The UAE and Al Ahli teenage sensation Ahmad Khalil has been named on the shortlist for the Aisan Football Confederation Youth Player of the Year.
Khalil's name is the latest addition along with Sherzodbek Karimov of Uzbekistan.
The duo join Korea Republic's Lee Jong Ho on the shortlist, according to the official website of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Khalil, who normally starts on the substitutes' bench for his club Al Ahli, was a vital part of the team under UAE youth coach Mehdi during the recently concluded AFC U-19 Championship in Saudi Arabia.
Recent award
The UAE teenager was named the MVP in Saudi Arabia for his exploits in leading his country to the title earlier this month.
On the other hand, Karimov impressed throughout the same tournament until Uzbekistan fell to eventual to UAE in the final.
Lee was the MVP of the AFC U-16 Championship though Korea Republic lost to Iran in the final.
