Abu Dhabi: The UAE football team beat FC Sion, of Switzerland, with a single goal scored by left wingback Saif Mohammad during a training camp ahead of the final round of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

The UAE today travel to France for more practice ahead of a friendly against Algeria on Wednesday.

The final phase of qualification sees the UAE play North Korea on September 6 before facing Saudi Arabia four days later.

Both matches will be held at Mohammad Bin Zayed Stadium, in Abu Dhabi. The group also features Iran and South Korea.

Bruno Metsu, the UAE head coach, used the friendly against the Swiss club to play nearly all of his players taking part in the training camp.

First-choice custodian Majid Nasir did not take part in the match because he will be suspended for the opening qualifier against Korea.

Hilal Saeed and Hyader allo Ali were rested for the game and did not feature.

Saif scored the match only goal of the game in the 65th minute.
