Dubai: Are you one of those people who dreamed of having a career in football, but missed the cut on your local football team? Well, your days of hopelessness over time lost are about to end and, right here in Dubai.

The city's many social football leagues won't guarantee a shot at the Champions League, but having scored that all important goal for your team and then having wheeled away in delight will definitely help you achieve that demigod status you've yearned for. Furthermore, it will help your tired soul sleep better!

One of the more popular leagues is run by Duplays, an acronym of Dubai Plays, which runs numerous mixed and single-sex football leagues for people of all abilities.

Soccer Dubai runs another important and equally exciting league for everyone from children to adults.

In addition to its highly competitive action days, Soccer Dubai also runs an academy for its junior members and conducts holiday camps to keep kids busy during their school breaks.

Popular

Their five-a-side adult tournaments are one of the most popular on the social circuit.

Most competitions are run on weekday evenings at either of the following locations: the outdoor fields of the Metropolitan Hotel, situated just off on Shaikh Zayed Road and is easily accessible from the second interchange, the Dulsco Village ground in Al Quoz (third and half interchange is best to get to this venue) and the Shaikh Rashid School for Boys in Nad Al Sheba.

For those of you not interested in getting competitive, but just want to enjoy a kick-around for that feel-good factor which comes with staying fit, Dubai's many outdoor parks is the answer.

Safa, in particular, which is just off the second interchange, is a good bet. There are a lot of real friendly, like-minded folk out there who won't think twice about giving you a chance to show what you're made of. You may even come across a team that plays in one of Dubai's many social leagues here.

So go out there and have fun, and leave the worries and pressures of the world behind!
