Shaikha Hind donates Dh25m for UAE heroes

League Committee postpones upcoming fixtures to give players a break

Dubai: Shaikha Hind Bint Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum, Wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has donated Dh25 million to the UAE national football team for their achievements.

The sons of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, Shaikh Rashid and Shaikh Saeed, have provided Dh12 million for the team and more donations and rewards are expected, with companies and businessmen coming forward with cash prizes and cars.

Striker Ahmad Khalil has already been given a new Range Rover for scoring the winning goal against Kuwait in the semi-final.

In 2007 when the UAE won the 18th Gulf Cup at home, Al Masaood donated 27 four wheel drive Nissan cars for all the members of the team and Bin Hamoodah donated the same number of cars. Esmail Mattar, then the team’s top player was rewarded with cars from Al Tayer Motors, RAK Motors and other national companies.

Meanwhile, the Professional League Committee (PLC) have postponed the fixtures of the 14th week of the Etisalat Pro League, which were scheduled for Monday and Tuesday (January 21 and 22) because of the late return of the members of UAE team who were in Bahrain on national duty.

The Committee said this will give the players a break and the new date for these matches will be decided later.

The matches of the 15th week, however, will he held as planned on January 26 and 27.
