Abu Dhabi: The UAE's fighting franchise Abu Dhabi Fighting Championship (ADFC) has announced that ADFC Round 2 will take place on October 22 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre (Adnec).
After the exciting debut last May, with I SEE (the parent company of ADFC) introducing the region's first Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) franchise, Round 2 will see the semi-final bouts of the Open-Weight Grand Prix for a winner-take-all grand prize of Dh1 million and the honour to be crowned the first ADFC Heavy Weight Champion.
In the Round 2 Fight Card, Brazilian Pan American Champion Marcos Oliveira will step in the cage against British Total Combat Ultimate Force Heavyweight Champion Neil Wain.
When asked what he thinks of his opponent Oliveira said, "He is ugly but very tough."
Knockout
"I don't think this fight will be like the last one," says the Brazilian who won his Round 1 fight with an amazing 19 second KO.
"I'm training very hard to go all three rounds, this is going to be a tough fight and I expect it to go all the way."
Oliveira is fighting for the Abu Dhabi Combat Club where he trains and is also a Jujitsu instructor, he says that he still feels that there is a lot of pressure on him as the home town fighter.
"Abu Dhabi is my second home. I'm very grateful for the opportunities that Shaikh Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and this country have given me. So I feel that I have to win this as a way of giving something back to the UAE, I also want my students and my family to be proud of me."
In the other semi-final fight, five time Russian Champion in Wushu-sanda Shamil Abdurahimov will face off against Cameroonian 2001 US Judo Open champion Thierry Sokoudjou for a chance to move on to the finals.
