Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has announced a reward of Dh3 million to honour the Al Wasl Club's soccer team for winning the President's Cup last week, beating Al Ain 4-1 in Abu Dhabi.

The generosity of Shaikh Mohammad came in keeping with his continued support for the distinguished contributions of the UAE youth in the field of sports.

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Industry, also honoured the Al Wasl players with Dh3 million for winning the President's Cup.

Shaikh Butti Al Maktoum, the former board chairman of the Al Wasl Club, decided to reward the club's players with Dh1 million.

Doubling the efforts

Shaikh Butti visited the club and congratulated the players for their excellent achievement.

He asked them to double their efforts in the coming league matches to stay on top and clinch the league title for the seventh time in the club's history.

Shaikh Butti spoke to the players before their training session on Sunday. He said: "You are capable of achieving more success for the club. With your fighting spirit and excellent standard, you have rekindled the memories of the Al Wasl legends of the '80s and '90s of the last century - like Zuhair Bakhit, Fahd and Nasser Khamis, Farouq and Fahd Abdul Rahman, Hassan Polo and others - who won the league title six times," said Shaikh Butti.

He asked the players to keep their joy of winning the President's Cup in their hearts for the time being and continue their fight in the remaining league matches.
