Dubai: Dubai Municipality and His Highness’ Office of the Crown Prince of Dubai were convincing winners at the end of the seven-a-side Dubai Government Entities football tournament at the Dubai Police Officers Club late on Wednesday.
Dubai Municipality secured an easy 3-0 win over Dubai Health Authority (DHA) to claim the over-38 years of age title, while His Highness’ Office rode on a brace from Najeeb Ahmad to beat Emirates Airline for the under-37 years of age crown.
Saeed Hareb, General Secretary, Dubai Sports Council (DSC), presented the trophies to the two captains and lauded them for their commitment to living a healthy lifestyle.
“We need to lead from the front and these players have all shown today that they are willing to lead society towards health and being happy,” Hareb told Gulf News.
“At Dubai Sports Council we are always willing to assist in any health-related programme that is meant to benefit society at large,” he added.
The Dubai Government Entities Football is one of several events that is conducted by DSC to encourage and involve the Government sector in leading an active and healthy lifestyle.
The highlight of the under-37 final was the brace from Ahmad. The nippy striker curled in the first goal in the sixth minute and then found the goal a second time three minutes from full-time to seal a fine win for His Highness’ Office of the Crown Prince of Dubai.
The over-38 years final was equally engrossing, with Dubai Municipality dominating play. Midway through the first half, former UAE striker Kazim Ali opened the scoring from the edge of the box.
