Abu Dhabi: Abdul Salam Jumaa celebrated his recall to the UAE senior national team in style scoring a last second goal for Al Jazira which helped his team to win the GCC Clubs Championship title late on Monday.
Abdul Salam, the former pivot midfielder of Al Wahda and the UAE, joined Al Jazira at the start of the season and played a dynamic role in leading his new team to their first ever major success.
"I am overjoyed with the possibility of playing again for my country." Abdul Salam told Gulf News yesterday.
"I am still in the prime of my career and I do believe that I have more to offer to the national team."
Sweet success
Regarding the Al Jazira's winning the GCC Clubs Championship title, Abdul Salam said " It was sweet to end the year with another achievement for the UAE's game after we started the year by winning our first Gulf Cup title. "I am happy to have played a role in helping my club to win the prestigious regional title."
UAE's head coach Bruno Metsu invited Abdul Salam to join the team's training camp following his outstanding form this season with Al Jazira in local and regional competitions.
The UAE will gather on January 5 in Dubai to play against AC Milan, the winner of the World Clubs Championship, on January 8.
They will also compete in the Challenge Tournament in Dubai from January 10-12 as part of the team's preparations for the second round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup in which they will play against Iran, Kuwait and Syria.
Metsu has also invited Fahad Masaood, the first UAE's player to play professional football outside the country with Qatar Club.
