Committee recommends Ahmad remain at Sharjah
Player who requested transfer faces Dh50,000 fine and six-month suspension for absence last season.
Abu Dhabi: The Players' Status Committee (PSC) of the UAE Football League (UFL) has ended the ordeal of Sharjah player Tareq Ahmad - after the Al Ahli Club failed to present the Dh7 million demanded for his transfer.
Ahmad had refused to join his team last season and asked to be transferred.
The PSC asked the clubs interested in his services to bid for him in closed envelopes.
Al Ahli's bid was for Dh1 million while Al Ain's bid was Dh15 million.
Ahmad should have joined Al Ain who presented the bigger bid but Al Ahli appealed to the UAE FA asking for the transfer deal to stop because of a mistake in the procedures while Ahmad himself announced that he would play for Al Ahli, not for Al Ain.
Meanwhile, the PSC decided to reduce the money needed for the player to Dh10 million, renewed the period of bidding and asked Al Ahli to pay Dh7 million to the Sharjah club while denying Ahmad his 30 per cent share of the deal .
But Al Ahli and Sharjah agreed on a deal far less than the Dh10 million and they refused to pay the Dh7 million.
The PSC decided to recommend that Ahmad should return to his team, Sharjah, be suspended for six months for his absence last season and fined Dh50,000.
The Board of Directors of the UAE FA will meet soon to decide upon the recommendation of the PSC to decide the future of the player.
Dr Salem Al Shamsi, the Chairman of the PSC, said "The player has breached his contract with his club and could have been fined Dh200,000 if he did not abide by the decisions of the PSC.
"We are keen to defend both the players' and the clubs' rights in the professional league. Both parties should abide by the contracts they sign," Al Shamsi added.
