Bani Yas continue their reign at top of First Division
Bani Yas defeated Ras Al Khaimah 2-0 to stay on top of the First division league with 25 points from 11 matches played so far.
Dubai: Bani Yas defeated Ras Al Khaimah 2-0 to stay on top of the First division league with 25 points from 11 matches played so far.
Bani Yas, who missed promotion in the last two years, are keen to win the First division title in order to be promoted to the professional league next season.
Hatta and Fujairah are chasing Bani Yas for the top place, each of them having 23 points. Fujairah defeated Ittihad Kalba 1-0 at the latter's ground, while Hatta failed to beat neighbours Dubai club.
They were held to a 1-1 draw which prevented them from sharing top spot with the leaders.
Al Orouba of Fujairah lost a good chance to get to the top after they lost to Emirates club 4-2. Al Orouba have 22 points in fourth place. Dubai and Al Jazira Al Hamra each have 20 points. Al Hamra beat Masafi 2-0.
The 1-0 defeat Ittihad Kalba were handed by Fujairah, saw them drop to the seventh place with 19 points, six points away from top team Bani Yas.
In the other matches, Al Zaid defeated Al Hamriya 4-1, Dibba Al Hesn beat Al Rams 1-0 and Dibba Fujairah defeated Al Arabi of Umm Al Quwain 3-1.
Al Hamriya are at the bottom of the table with two points from two draws and nine defeats. They are still looking for their first win.
Twelfth stage matches: Thursday January 1, 2009: Fujairah v Dibba Fujairah, Bani Yas v Al Zaid, Dibba Al Hesn v Hatta, Dubai v Emirates, Al Hamriya v Al Rams, Al Orouba v Ittihad Kalba, Al Jazira Al Hammra v Ras Al Khaimah, Al Arabi v Masafi.
