Baiano stars in Al Wahda win

Scores two classy goals and sets up third as Abu Dhabi club rout Dubai 4-0

Abu Dhabi: Fernando Baiano scored twice in a fluent 4-0 win for Al Wahda, while Baniyas and Ajman eked out 1-0 victories in the President's Cup tournament yesterday.

Baiano scored two classy goals and assisted in the third to help Al Wahda blank Dubai, as Baniyas overcame Dubai's Al Nasr and Ajman accounted for Dibba Al Hisn.

Baiano opened Al Wahda's account in the 65th minute, when he headed home a cross from Mahmoud Khamis after Henrique Hugo had done the spade work. The Brazilian made it 2-0 nine minutes later, again receiving a pass from Khamis before beating a defender and firing home as he continued his good form since returning after a car crash, which forced him to spend a few days in police custody.

Baiano then did well to play a one-two with fellow Brazilian Magrao, the latter completing a marauding run with a superb finish to make it 3-0 in the 81st minute. Substitute Ebrahim Muftah rounded off the tally for last season's runners-up with a rasping drive off a Hugo flick.

Vieira replaces Tita

Former Bani Yas coach Jorvan Vieira has replaced sacked Sharjah manager Valeriu Tita.

Tita had taken over from Carlos Azenha late in pre-season but led the club through a disappointing spell of four losses, one draw and two wins from seven league games. The Romanian also recorded four losses, two draws from six cup outings.

Brazil's Vieira, sacked from Bani Yas after just one point from the first three league matches, was the first coach of this season to be fired.
