Al Shabab book first semis berth in President's Cup
Al Shabab became the first club to reach the volleyball President's Cup semifinals after they defeated Al Jazira 3-1 in the quarters and will now face the winner of the Al Nasr and Ittihad Kalba clash.
Dubai: Al Shabab became the first club to reach the volleyball President's Cup semifinals after they defeated Al Jazira 3-1 in the quarters and will now face the winner of the Al Nasr and Ittihad Kalba clash.
Al Jazira surprised the Al Shabab players by snatching the lead 31-29 in the first set, but Al Shabab fought hard in the second set to win 25-18 and level the score.
Victories needed
They went on to win the third set 25-21 and then brought the curtain down on Al Jazira's ambition by winning the fourth set 25-20.
Al Nasr, who lost the league and FA cup, are now looking for victories in the President's Cup and Shaikh Zayed Cup to save their season.
Meanwhile, Al Wasl will face defending champions Bani Yas in in the quarterfinals on May 9, after beating Ajman 3-1.
Ajman won the first set 25-22, however Al Wasl stormed back to win the next three sets 25-19, 27-25, 25-15.
Bani Yas were given a bye in the pre-quarters, because they were cup winners last season.
The President's Cup will be the last tournament to be held this season.
The FA cup was won by Al Ahli and the league title was clinched by Al Ain.
Before the President's Cup final on May 20, the Shaikh Zayed Cup will be contested by the top four teams in the league next week.
