Al Khaleej continue winning ways against Al Shaab
Secure 2-0 victory in league with goals by Mal Allah and Eid despite being reduced to ten men
Sharjah: Al Khaleej continued their winning streak, defeating Al Shaab 2-0 in the UFL at the Khalid Bin Mohammad stadium in Sharjah on Saturday.
After beating Al Nasr in the league 5-2 and the President's Cup 3-2, Al Khaleej continued their fine form with a victory that sees their point tally rise to seven, while Al Shaab occupy the bottom position with four.
Al Khaleej were forced to play with ten men when defender Khalfan Mohammad was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 63rd minute.
Despite playing away, Al Khaleej dominated the match in the first half with Nigerian Abbas Moya and Mohammad Mal Allah causing problems for the Al Shaab defence. Moya went close in the tenth minute when his 35-metre free kick was blocked with difficulty by Al Shaab goalkeeper Mohammad Ali Guloom.
Meanwhile, Al Shaab attacks led by Godwin Attram and Mohammad Kalon were not so sharp with Al Khaleej defenders dealing easily with the threat.
It was Mohammad Mal Allah who opened the scoring for Al Khaleej on 35 minutes after latching on to an error from Guloom, who failed to catch a Moya free kick.
Ebrahim Eid then scored the second from the spot seven minutes later when Khalid Saqr was brought down by Moya inside the box.
Al Shaab pressed in the second half with Nabeel Ebrahim, Adil Abdul Karim, Atram and Saeed Taresh threatening, but the final touch was often lacking.
The Al Khaleej defence, led by Murad Al Rafiee and Tariq Bilal, was also in fine form while goalkeeper Jaber Jasim was called on to make several fine saves, as Al Khaleej played on the counter.
Moya and Mal Allah could have increased the margin in the second period, but were unlucky with Guloom in fine form.
