Dubai: Al Ain coach Winfried Schaefer is confident his side can mount a late challenge during the second half of the UAE Football League (UFL).

"We have a good team and there is tremendous amount of spirit among the players. I am sure we will be among the top teams contending for the title as the league progresses," Schaefer told Gulf News.

Schaefer was one of the coaches in attendance at yesterday's training session of Italian giants AC Milan being held at the Al Nasr Club ground. AC Milan are scheduled to play German Bundesliga side Hamburg SV in a friendly at The Sevens on January 6.

"My players are ready for the challenge. They have shown the spirit and I feel confident about the quality we have shown in the last couple of matches," Schaefer stated.

Al Ain went down 0-2 to current league leaders Al Jazira, but bounced back with a 2-2 away draw against Al Ahli and then tamed former champions Al Wasl 2-0.

"We have quality in our side. The infusion of new blood has helped tremendously and each player is eager to prove himself," the coach said.
