Yogi Group claim Ramadan Open trophy

Yogi Group beat Zain Cricket Club to lift the Dulsco Ramadan Open cricket trophy at Zabeel Park on Thursday.

Dubai: Yogi Group beat Zain Cricket Club to lift the Dulsco Ramadan Open cricket trophy at Zabeel Park on Thursday.

The side claimed the trophy thanks to a four-wicket spell from bowler Mukhtar Kadhri and a spirited batting display, particularly from Jaiprakash and Prabodhan Kanse.

The side's skipper Shiva Pagarani, who bagged the best bowler of the tournament award, said: "We won this tournament as we had an excellent combination which could rise to the demands of a Twenty20 match."

In the final game, opener Kanse set Yogi Group on the road to a big score by hitting 53, which included four fours and three sixes.

He shared a 56 run partnership with with Azhar Naseer, who scored 20, before Naseer was bowled by Kamran. The next batsman Jaiprakash scored 73 and put on 66 runs for the second wicket with Kanse.

After Kanse was trapped leg before by Shafqat Ali, Swapnil Patil hit 24 runs as Yogi recorded 203 for seven in 20 overs.

Zain got off to a poor start as Khurram Shehzad, who had won the Sharjah Ramadan player of the tournament award, was trapped leg before by Sharif for seven.

Fellow opener Hassan Khan fell shortly after for 10.

Azar Naseer had the next man Asif Butt LBW for five as Zain slipped to three for 35 in the first five overs.

Waqas Ahmad hit some effortless sixes and along with Amir Butt took the score to 87.

Kadhri clean bowling Ahmad for 34, which contained four sixes. He also bowled next man Shafaqat Ali for six.

Amir Butt tried to keep the run-rate going but wickets kept falling.

In the 15th over, Kadhri had Amir Butt stumped by wicketkeeper Swapnil Patil for 46 and Zain Club's challenge ended with it.
