Abu Dhabi: Last season's runners-up William Hare Abu Dhabi Gymkhana went one better this season to lift the Salama Insurance Trophy defeating Nissan Al Masaoud by six wickets at the Zayed Cricket Stadium here on Friday.
Gymkhana, who had ousted defending champions Atlas Telecom in the semifinals, had it rather easy when they easily chased the target of 118 set by Nissan.
Electing to field first, Gymkhana never allowed the Nissan batsmen to settle down and apart from opener Zaheer Baig (51) and Inam Farid (32) none other entered double figures.
Irfan Haider, who had a great tournament picked up three wickets while Tahir Butt also snapped up three as Nissan were all out for 117 in 28 overs.
Nissan's star bowler Mohammad Rafiq dismissed Haider, who opened the innings, for just eight but a match-winning partnership of 52 between Harun Iftikhar (30 not out) and Asim Khurshid (28 not out) saw Gymkhana through.
Mohammad Islam, Manager of William Hare Abu Dhabi Gymkhana, said: "This is our second trophy of this season.
"We started with a win in the Fortune Group Ramadan T20 tournament but this triumph is great. We are hoping to win a few more before the season ends."
Rafiq Halani of Salama Insurance along with Abu Dhabi Cricket Council (ADCC) officials Dilawar Mani and Wajahat Hussain gave away the trophies and awards to the winners.
