Younis Khan thinks his bowlers made the difference in the end
Karachi: It was double delight for Younis Khan. He not only led Pakistan to a great victory in the absence of Inzamam ul Haq, but also won the Man of the Series award. A cheerful Younis spoke about the victory and praised his teammates for their splendid show.
GULF NEWS: What do you attribute as the reason behind the victory?
KHAN: It was our bowling attack which helped us win this match. Mohammad Asif was simply fantastic. We also did not drop catches like in the first innings.
In the final analysis, what do you feel about losing the toss?
I think it was a good toss to lose (smile).
Why did you delay declaring your team's second innings?
I think to declare an innings with nearly 180 overs to go would not have been wise. Indians have players who can play a long innings. So I think it was proper to declare with nearly 600 runs on board.
What was the major difference between the two teams?
We had a better bowling attack and variety. We had an accurate Razzaq and Asif, who could can bowl like McGrath. To add to them we had Shoaib, who can really generate pace. So we had better variety to our attack.
What do you consider as the turning point of the game?
The partnership between Kamran Akmal and Abdul Razzaq. If they did not rescue us and we were bowled out for under 100 in the first innings, the story of this Test match would have been different.
What was your team's strategy when you went out to field in the second innings?
We had a discussion with Inzamam. We decided to tackle session by session and make sure we do not drop catches.
Will Inzamam play in the one-dayers?
Yes he is fit and is looking forward to play in the one-dayers.
What do you feel about Sachin's form?
Sachin has been handling pressure very well. For the last 15 years, he has been handling the pressure of Indian batting. He has steered India to great victories, so I feel he needs backing now.
