Swansea: A cricket umpire has died after being struck on the head by a ball.

Alcwyn Jenkins, 72, collapsed after the blow during a Welsh cricket league match in Swansea on Saturday.

The game between Swansea and Llangennech in the South Wales Association's Division One was abandoned.

"He was one of the oldest umpires and he was a smashing guy, a real character," said Eddie Blake, who was umpiring another league match in Wales at the time. "It is just unbelievable."
