UAE cricket mourns Mishra
Dubai: Prem Mishra, one of UAE's most experienced cricket umpires, died at Belhoul Speciality Hospital at 4am yesterday.
He was hospitalised for the last 25 days following respiratory and kidney failure.
Mishra, 56, had officiated as fourth umpire in many international matches in Sharjah.
He has also been an umpire in Mumbai's reputed Kanga League.
He had recently officiated the Gulf Super Sixes tournament at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Umpire Tarek Butt, who had officiated in many matches with Mishra, said: "I will miss him. He was a great colleague with whom I have officiated in over 100 matches.
"Even in his last match at the Sevens Ground on December 23, I was his co-umpire. He officiated two matches from morning till evening in the Dubai Cricket Council (DCC) Premier League. He was a passionate lover of the game."
Back to game
Mishra had left UAE two years ago to settle down in Mumbai, but returned to continue umpiring in UAE after setting up a business in Abu Dhabi.
Mazhar Khan, Administrator of the Emirates Cricket Board, said: "Mishra was indeed a thorough gentlemen and one of the best DCC umpires. His departure has created a vacuum in our umpires panel."
Mohammad Lokhandwala, secretary of the DCC, said: "Mishra was a very dedicated and knowledgable umpire. He was also a very jovial person who enjoyed cricket to the core."
