Abu Dhabi: Sohail Tanvir, the hero of Pakistan's win in the second one-day international against the West Indies here, attributed his success to the extra work he has put in net sessions.

Tanvir, who scored a quickfire 26 before he was run out and later picked up two crucial wickets for Pakistan, was named Man of the Match.

He said: "I have been working extra hard in the nets. I am concentrating on my batting and practices playing with a straight bat. That is what I did in the match.

"When I went in we were seven wickets down. I just decided to play with a straight bat," said Tanvir, whose 26 off 20 balls gave Pakistan a much-needed lift towards the end of the innings.

Tanvir hit three consecutive fours off Jerome Taylor in his little cameo before being run out.

Skipper Shoaib Malek would no doubt have been more pleased with the way Tanvir has bowled.

Following his three wickets haul in the first match, Tanvir followed it up by dismissing Chris Gayle and Sewnarine Chattergoon without scoring to set up Pakistan's victory.

Swing

"I have been working hard on my swing as my skipper told me that the ball swings here on this pitch.

"I was particularly working on my control over the swing, specially when bowling to the left-handers. It paid off," said Tanvir.

With Pakistan's fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar injured, it was Tanvir who spearhead the attack.
