Schools from all emirates gear up for cricket glory
Schools from all seven emirates will take part for the first time in an inter-school cricket tournament to be held in Sharjah and Dubai.
Dubai: Schools from all seven emirates will take part for the first time in an inter-school cricket tournament to be held in Sharjah and Dubai.
This tournament, which is being organised by Maxtalent, will also be the biggest inter-school tournament with 36 schools from different emirates confirming their participation.
"We have schools from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain, Ajman, Al Ain and Ras Al Khaimah participating in this tournament. Our aim is to encourage talent at the grass root level from all over the emirates," remarked Sudhakar Shetty, the chief organiser of the tournament, to Gulf News.
"This tournament is for the Under-13 and Under-17 boys and also for Under-17 girls and is being held under the auspices of the Sharjah Cricket Council," added Shetty.
Third venue
"Being a tournament of such magnitude we have decided to stage it in three venues. Zabeel Park in Dubai and Al Dhaid Cricket Village will host majority of the matches. A third venue is also under consideration," said Shetty.
Maxtalent had recently organised an inter collegiate tournament in Dubai and a three-nation junior tournament in Bangalore. This organisation has also plans to promote basketball and badminton in the UAE. This inter-school event is being supported by Pehla and Apparel Group. The winners of the Under-13 boys championship will receive the Pehla Cup while the winners of the Under-17 boys and girls events can win the Apparels Cup.
To spread the game among UAE nationals, a combined schools team made up of only UAE nationals will take part in this tournament, scheduled to begin from March 29.
Dulsco staged the inaugural match of their corporate cricket tournament at Zabeel Park. Jashanmal defeated Trident International Holding by three wickets in this 20 over tournament at the Zabeel Park. In the AJ Invitation League tournament, organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council, Naimullah hit a brilliant century to steer CSS Group to a narrow 13-run victory over Millennium Metals.
Naimullah hit 101 and took two wickets as CSS Group stopped Millennium Metals in a match that produced 480 runs in 50 overs.
