Dubai: The Dubai Cricket Council (DCC) annual inter school cricket tournament, which had to be stopped due to lack of grounds, is set to get a fresh lease of life.

The Dubai Investment Park (DIP) grounds in Jebel Ali has opened its gates to stage this popular tournament, which has produced many promising cricketers.

Freddy Sidhwa, chairman and managing director of Seven Seas Shipchandlers, who is a keen follower of the game and a veteran cricketer, assisted DCC to get the grounds.

Seven Seas had helped DIP to make a cricket ground to cater to the increasing enthusiasm for the game.

This inter-school tournament, known as the Al Rawabi inter-school tournament, will now be called the Green Valley inter- school tournament and will start from April 12.

Robinder Singh, the former Al Rawabi group sales and marketing manager, now the Business Development manager of Al Rabia Trading, has greed to back the tournament.

"It has always been our belief that children are the future and the most important element in a family and cricket is the most popular expatriate sport played by most of our consumers, so it was very natural to tie up with DCC and support this tournament," said Singh.

The Green Valley will also give away scholarships to the three outstanding performers of the event. Abdul Razzaque Kazim, the DCC vice chairman, is hoping to expand this tournament.

"We are hopeful of staging this tournament in a much larger scale next year with the help of Emirates airlines, who are developing a few grounds," said Kazim.

"This tournament is for the Under-15 age group. Matches will be held on weekdays and on Saturday afternoon," said Mohammad Lokhandwala, the tournament co-ordinator.

Following are the groups:

Group A: Delhi Private School, The Millennium School, Dubai, Dubai Scholars, New Indian Model School (Sharjah).
