Our ultimate goal is winning the World Cup
Two matches gone and two matches won. We're delighted, naturally.
We have virtually guaranteed our passage into the next round with some solid cricket. But our ultimate goal was not qualification for the Super Eights; we came to the Caribbean to become world champions again. We want the main prize and that means the game against India is very important.
The new structure of the tournament which includes six matches per team in the Super Eights as well as the carry-forward of points has enlivened this World Cup by minimising the number of dead games. The game against India is an opportunity to seize two precious points. I believe we deserve those points and we are now completely focused on getting them.
Our performance against Bangladesh was heartening. We gave them due respect for their obvious improvement in the past year but focused on our strategy and our brand of cricket. Our preparation was excellent and we controlled the match right from the start despite losing the toss. All departments contributed and it was a genuine team effort. Special mention, though, can be made of Sanath [Jayasuriya].
Incredible batsman
He really is an incredible one-day batsman, an awesome match-winner.
And despite being 37 he is super-fit, bubbling with energy and playing some of the best cricket of his career.
Once again, against Bangladesh this time, he stamped his authority on the game and secured us the early initiative. We knew fully well that Bangladesh's bowling resources could be stretched.
They gambled on an XI that left them with just five reliable bowling options and we wanted to make sure that we didn't lose early wickets so we could exploit this later on.
We were able to put them under extreme pressure and the runs flowed with Kumar [Sangakkara] and Chamara [Silva] playing some fabulous strokes.
The bowlers also lifted themselves with Vaas showing great rhythm and skill while Lasith [Malinga] once again showed the immense value of genuine pace. He is a huge asset with the new ball and the old ball late-on in the innings.
India present a far stiffer challenge and we will have to play exceptionally well to beat them.
They will be playing under huge pressure during the match and we can expect them to come at us hard.
We will be focused on our own preparation and will treat this game like any other, just like we did against Bermuda and Bangladesh.
It will be tough playing a big game so soon after the Bangladesh match, but we are not going to shirk that challenge. We are ready.
