Kingston, Jamaica: Two highly explosive details have now emerged from the Bob Woolmer murder inquiry here yesterday: One that the police have managed to identify a potentially relevant suspect after hours of trawling through CCTV footage. And two - the murder weapon may have been aconite.

These findings have forced the justice ministry in Jamaica to postpone the inquest, due to take place here tomorrow, at which 20 witnesses were to give evidence.

The police are shying away from naming the suspect, though he is understood to be male, but speculation is rife that it could be anyone from members of the Pakistan team management, or even perhaps a player or groups of players.

The presence of bookies has also not been ruled out, though the identity of the suspect is being kept a closely guarded secret.

Relevant breakthrough

The highly relevant breakthrough in the case was obtained by Scotland Yard police officials and the efforts of Jamaican Deputy Commissioner of police Mark Shields, a former Scotland Yard officer himself. CCTV footage has apparently been digitally enhanced at Scotland Yard after being collected from the 12th floor apartment of the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston where Woolmer and the Pakistan team were staying and an individual identified.

According to statements, "the time of the footage and the location mean that this individual must now be considered as a suspect."

This breakthrough will now be weighed up against certain people who have already given statements after Woolmer's death.

In this regard, Shields has hinted that a trip to Pakistan is probably on the cards in order to re-examine statements given by members of the Pakistan team and officials. It is believed that aconite has been used in the past for high-level assassinations in Pakistan.

Should Shields and his men make the trip to Pakistan, it may call for high level diplomatic interventions.
