Abu Dhabi: Australia’s Mitchell Marsh, who made his Test debut in Dubai, was confident that his team can bounce back and level the Test series in the capital.
The 221-run trashing at the hands of Pakistan had not dampened the spirits within the team and the morale is high, the young allrounder revealed after a training session here on Tuesday,
“The mood in the team is pretty good but obviously it wasn’t great to lose that Test match but we have moved on from that,” said Marsh, adding, “All the preparation are towards winning this Test match and drawing this series. And if we can do that it will be pretty good.”
Marsh also went on to reveal that the team is well aware of what grey areas they have to work on and that’s what they have been doing in the build-up to this crunch outing. “Obviously coming out of that first Test, today and tomorrow is to get what you need. Some guys have done little and some guys have done more. The batters have hit few more balls today and we have to now go on from there,” said Marsh, who also had a forgettable outing in the first Test with scores of 27 and three. He, along with few other batsmen, were seen making conscious effort in the nets to play straight.
“Ya I think obviously we know what we are going to get in this game. We have to be well-prepared as much as we can,” said Marsh, who felt that there was plenty of pluses as well to take from the first Test.
“The big thing that came out of the first Test is that lot of our batsmen got in and got starts. We know on these wickets you need to bat long and cash in. We didn’t do that and as a result we lost the Test match,” said Marsh, who replaced Shane Watson as Australia’s frontline all-rounder in the series opener.
The scorching heat here has always been a test but that won’t be much of worry for the Australians going into the second Test, asserted Marsh.
“We have been here for probably for four weeks and everyone has got accustomed to the heat. Me being from Perth, I’m little bit used to the heat and it hasn’t been too bad. As the months gone on it’s been cooler and it has also helped us out a bit,” said Marsh, who felt that it was important to score big on these wickets.
“The wicket looks flat and once the ball gets old it is tougher to score. When we get in we have to make sure we score big and try and put pressure on Pakistan team.”
