Abu Dhabi: Eion Morgan missed his second double century at the Zayed International Cricket Stadium by four runs but his unbeaten 196-run innings was enough to see Ireland to a 25-run win over Abu Dhabi Cricket Council XI on Wednesday.

Ireland scored 307 for 7 in 50 overs and the spirited Abu Dhabi team's run chase ended 25 runs short but with 21 balls remaining.

Morgan, who slammed a double hundred here against the UAE in a four-day match last year, was once again in ominous form after missing out in the recent 4-day match here.

After Ireland were reduced to 12 for 3, Morgan put 97 runs for the fourth wicket with Niall O'Brien (45) and starred in a massive 182-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Alex Cusack (40).

Morgan, who was unlucky to be stranded on 196 not out, belted 23 boundaries and five huge sixes. Skipper Qazi Ayoub picked up two late wickets to finish with two for 53 for the hosts.

Brief scores:

Ireland 307 for 7 in 50 overs (Morgan 196 n.o, Niall O'Brien 45, Alex Cusack 40, Qazi Ayoub 2 for 53)

Abu Dhabi CC XI 282 all out in 46.3 overs (Fayyaz Ahmad 72, Rizwan Khan 64, Saeed Sajjad 46, Gopal Nitten 39, Tariq Javed 29, Phil Eaglestone 3-40, Kevin O'Brien 3-48, Greg Thompson 3-53).
