India ease to series win
Indian pacemen Rudra Pratap Singh and Irfan Pathan ripped through the Pakistani order as India romped home in the fourth one day international on Thursday.
Multan: Indian pacemen Rudra Pratap Singh and Irfan Pathan ripped through the Pakistani order as India romped home in the fourth one day international on Thursday.
The two left armers put in deadly spells to leave Pakistan reeling on 161 all out in Multan.
Pratap (4-40) rocked the home side by removing Shoaib Malik and Younis Khan in two balls and then in his second spell picked up the wickets of super sub Imran Farhat and Abdul Razzaq in the same over.
Pathan (3-26) got things moving for India by taking Kamran Akmal's wicket and then wiped up at the tail to complete his third three-wicket haul in succession in the series.
Respectability was only achieved thanks to a partnership of 68 in 77 balls between captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Yousuf.
India, who have now taken a winning 3-1 lead in the five match series, helped their cause with some spectacular catches to hasten the batting collapse.
Pakistan lost Akmal (3) to a reflex catch by Suresh Raina at point off Irfan Pathan, and then in the 12th over Salman Butt (13) was caught by lone slip Dravid diving to his left off Sreesanth.
Brief hopes of making a game of it were raised when Pakistan made early breakthrough.
Mohammad Sami picked up the wickets of Sachin Tendulkar (0) and Gautam Gambhir (21) to reduce India to 29 for 2.
But skipper Rahul Dravid stepped in to steady the ship, with his 59 helping to steer his side to victory in just 32.3 overs.
Dravid was delighted by his side's recovery after they had gone down to defeat in the test series and the opening one-day match in Peshawar.
He said: "I am proud of how they have put their act together. It is not easy beating Pakistan in Pakistan.
"Losing the first match in Peshawar was a big disappointment but the young bowlers have really responded beautifully. We are trying to build a good one-day side."
Pakistan captain Inzamam said his side had failed to hit the heights achieved in the test series wins over England and India.
"It was a very big series for us and we didn't play according to expectations or as well as we can," he said.
