Kolkata: David Hussey scored a brilliant 38 not out to guide Kolkata Knight Riders to a thrilling five-wicket win over Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday.

Chasing a target of 111, the hosts romped home to victory in the 19th over with some big hits from Hussey to seal the Riders' second win on the trot - and the first win on home ground.

Australian Test captain Ricky Ponting made a first ball duck in his second IPL outing, trapped LBW by Sri Lankan veteran Chaminda Vaas.

Andrew Symonds, the competition's highest paid player, made 32 from 39 balls for the Chargers while team-mate and fellow Australian Adam Gilchrist made 23 from 22.

In the night's other match, the Bangalore Royal Challengers beat the Mumbai Indians by five wickets in Mumbai, with the home suffering a setback due to Sachin Tendulkar being ruled out with injury.

Things only got worse, though, with Australian all-rounder Dominic Thornely forced to retire hurt on nothing when he was struck on the helmet grill by a Zaheer Khan bouncer.
