Half a billion could see India tour on television

Dubai: The UK television rights for India's tour of Sri Lanka have been syndicated to Zee International by Dubai Ten Sports.
The Dubai channel, which says it is the most watched sports channel in the sub-continent and the world's largest broadcaster of cricket, claims the deal means the series can now be seen by a potential audience of more than half a billion fans spread across 100 countries.
The radio rights in the UK and Europe have already been sold to the BBC while DirecTV will broadcast the matches in North and Central America, Astro in Malaysia and Fox Sports in Australia.
Chris McDonald, CEO of Taj Television Limited, owners of Ten Sports, said: "Sri Lankan cricket is incredibly dynamic and colourful, and we are keen to bring that excitement to millions of fans across the world.
"We broadcast and syndicate half of the world's cricket.
"It is our responsibility to the various cricket boards, as well to the game of cricket itself, to ensure the widest possible audience for all matches we produce."
Series begins
India began the first of three Tests against Sri Lanka yesterday.
After a rain delayed start, Sri Lanka finished the first day on 85 for two.
Ten Sports says it is the world's biggest broadcaster and producer of cricket with matches broadcast from Sharjah, West Indies, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The India-Sri Lanka series, which started yesterday, can now be seen by fans spread across 100 countries.
