Abu Dhabi: England need 145 runs to win the second Test against Pakistan and level the three-Test series 1-1.
Pakistan were bowled out for 214 in their second innings with Monty Panesar picking up six wickets for 62 midway through the post lunch session on day four of the Second Test against England being played at the Zayed International Cricket Stadium
It was his 9th five-wicket haul, second against Pakistan and the first since May 2008.
Resuming at their overnight score of 125 for 4, Pakistan lost Asad Shafiq who could only add eight runs and fell on 43, caught in the slips by James Anderson off Monty Panesar to five the spinner his fourth wicket of the innings.
Azhar Ali remained steady at the other end and shared another 28 runs with Adnan Akmal before the new ball earned England two wickets. Ali went for a fighting 68, caught behind off Anderson while Chris Broad forced Akmal (13) to snick one to the slips where Andrew Strauss grabbed it gleefully and Pakistan at that stage were just ahead by 102 runs.
However since then both Saeed Ajmal (11) and Abdur Rehman (10) hung on to add 26 valuable runs until lunch and help Pakistan lead by 128 runs.
But Swann struck in the third ball after lunch to trap Abdur Rehman for 10 and Panesar then came into the game to first get rid of Ajmal for 17, caught by Anderson at the slips.
Umar Gul hit a six off Broad but Panesar bowled Junaid Khan to end Pakistan’s second innings.
