England cricketer Jonathan Trott’s father to coach in Dubai

Ian, who inspired his son to become a world-class player, to provide tips

Dubai: Ian Trott, the father of England’s star batsman Jonathan Trott, will stage a 10-day cricket clinic at the G Force Cricket Academy from March 30.

Trott was instrumental in teaching the basics to Jonathan, who is today one of the finest batsmen in the game.

Speaking to Gulf News, Gopal Jasapara, the Head Coach of the G Force Academy, said: “During our academy’s tour to England last year, our boys got an opportunity to get some tips from Ian. Knowing his ability to groom young talent, we have invited him to conduct a clinic here.”

It was Ian who encouraged Jonathan to take up cricket seriously. The South Africa-born England batsman hit his first century in domestic cricket at the age of nine and by the age of 12 had already scored 12 tons.

Ian said of his son’s rise to fame: “I am very proud of him. He is a boy who really wanted it and worked extremely hard to get where he is. He never gave his wicket away.”

Jonathan today averages more than 50 in both Tests and one-dayers. Ian is on a mission to groom more youngsters and conducts coaching camps not only in England, but also in New Zealand.

“Ian will be flying in from New Zealand and will focus on providing tips and what needs to be done to become an outstanding player,” said Jasapara.

Details of the coaching programme during the clinic will be available at www.gforcricketacademy.com. G Force won the inter-academy cricket tournament titles organised by Dubai and Sharjah Cricket Councils.
