New Indian Model School face Delhi Private School in basketball final

Hosts overcome shaky start to beat Indian High School by 12 points in semifinals

Sharjah: Hosts New Indian Model School (NIMS), Sharjah, entered the final of the 20th NIMS Trophy Inter-School Basketball Tournament by defeating Indian High School, Dubai, by a margin of 12 points in the semifinals.

After a shaky start, NIMS came back into the game and led the first quarter 14 - 8. NIMS increased their lead to 14 points at half time with the score being 33-19.

Indian High School, Dubai, fought well in the third quarter and scored 13 against 10 points and in the last quarter, NIMS, Sharjah, scored 17 against 16 points to reach the final with the final score being 60-48.

Abdullah Al Maqsood top scored with 24 points and Sameer netted 12 points. Mohammad assisted with rebounds and shot 11 points for NIMS. Siddarth top scored for Indian High with 27 points.

In an exciting match, defending champions Delhi Private School (DPS) Sharjah edged out St. Mary's Catholic High School, Dubai by five points. The score was 55-50.

St. Mary's took an early lead and scored 20 against 16 points in the first quarter. DPS dominated the second quarter by scoring 9-2 and led 25-22 at half time. Both the teams fought well in the second half with DPS scoring 16-15 in the third quarter and 14-13 in the last quarter.

For DPS Kenneth Monis and Nigel James scored 15 points each. Aashish Dugar 12 points and Harsh Dharmendra nine points were the other contributors for Delhi Private School, Sharjah. Austin Paul excelled with 16 points for St. Mary's Dubai and was well assisted by Efrem who scored 14 points and Lawrence Justin who netted 10 points.

DPS, Sharjah : 55 (Nigel James Anthony 15, Kenneth Daniel Monis 15, Aashish Dugar 12, Harsh Dharmendra 9, Lionel Kenneth 4) beat St. Mary's Catholic High School, Dubai: 50 (Austin Paul 16, Efrem 14, Lawrence Justin 10, Edwin Varghese 4, Bosco Savio Lasrado 2, Jonathan A.T. 2 and Victor E.J 2).
