Dubai: Goltens put themselves in pole position for the top honours with a rousing 60-48 win against the Islanders in the opening semifinal series of the third Filipino Basketball Club Mama Sita's Cup summer tournament last week.

The win put Goltens firmly in the seat for another title this season at the Al Shaab Club in Sharjah.

Replying on an all-round showing, Goltens was impressive as they led from the start.

After the halftime, Goltens pushed their lead into double figures as they led 47-34 with two minutes still remaining in the third quarter.

And as is their wont, Goltens clamped down on their defence in the final quarter to allow the Islanders just eight points. Ronald Sarabia, Western Union's best player of the game, topped the Goltens scoring with 14 points, while Nestor De Mesa and Ramir Pasahol lent able support with 10 and 9 points respectively.

"I think we took maximum advantage of some crucial mistakes made by the Islanders," admitted Goltens skipper Jun Lim.
