Dubai: Underdogs Dubai Duty Free continued their winning run in the inter-company competition of the 10th PBA Dubai Grand Fiesta Conference with a 76-67 win against high-flying Emirates airline last weekend.
The loss - the second in as many matches -puts Emirates Airline in a shaky position to stay in contention for the title.
Leading the Dubai Duty Free charge was Mike Balangue as they led 22-15 at the end of the opening quarter.
They maintained the pressure in the second quarter and stayed clear by 16 points at 49-33.
But in all fairness, Emirates were missing out on three key players, which ultimately dictated the outcome of the match.
By the end of the third quarter, Dubai Duty Free were steaming away at 57-44 and no signs of caving in.
Dubai Duty Free now have to get the better of Dubai Aluminium to seal the final spot in the semifinals.
Emirates airline, on the other hand, will have to bear both Pepsi and Dubai Aluminum to keep themselves in contention.
The cool and swift shooting Regalado once again led Emirates Design/Retouche to an 82-78 victory over CK One Summer.
Coach Jeremy Noval used his experienced players - the triumvirate of Rico Regalado, Ronald Alupay and three-point specialist Buboy Beltran - to chalk out an emphatic win in the end.
In another Class B match, lanky Ronnie Rago led Choithram/Multiline to a 67-63 win against Airwing Jetz.
And in the inter-hotel division, Jumeirah International cruised to a 69-64 win against Hyatt Dubai.
Leading Jumeirah International was Jess Binongo as he exploded a barrel of four unanswered three-pointers to tilt the scale in favour of his team.
Binongo went on to make a total of 21 points followed by Ritchie Azarcon (16) and another 12 points from the towering Don de los Santos.
