Sharjah: Delhi Private School (DPS) displayed their supremacy by winning the third edition of the DPS inter-school basketball tournament for the third consecutive time.

So dominant was their authority that they beat Indian High School, Dubai 75-26 in a one-sided final.

Unfortunately, the hosts could not clinch a double win as their girls team lost to Our Own English High School 52-50 in an exciting final.

Speaking to Gulf News, T Ali, the basketball coach of the DPS, said: "We have been dominating in schools basketball because we have developed a basketball culture in our school with the help of our management. The girls are also catching up, and although they narrowly missed the cup, they have a bright future. Almost eight players in the team are only 13 years old."

In the boys final, DPS lead in all the four quarters. The Indian High School boys found the man-to-man defence of the DPS team too tough to handle. Only the tall Sidharth managed to break through and score 15 points.

For DPS, Sidheek Razak top scored with 23 points backed by Kunal Vohra, Kenneth and Vivek, who scored 14 each.

The girls final turned out to be a thriller from the start. DPS began well, racing off to a 13-5 lead, and at half time they were 25-14 ahead.

The turning point came during the start of the third quarter when their playmaker Joanu Ann Varghese committed a fourth foul. Our Own girls capitalised on the situation and quickly raced to a lead and sealed the match in their favour.
