Dubai: The Technical and Sports Affairs Department of the UAE National Olympic Committee (UAE NOC) has endorsed a three-tier competition format for the fourth edition of the UAE School Olympic Games.

The first three editions of the annual event hosted all competitions in a double format that saw schools first competing at the educational zone level followed by finals at the national level. Various winners of the preliminary round competitions were assigned to the ten specialized zonal training centres spread over the UAE so that they could prepare for the year-ending finals.

However, with the number of competitors steadily showing an increase the UAE NOC has decided to slip in an additional step for competition in-between the preliminary round and finals. The start of the fourth edition of the UAE School Olympic Games has been scheduled for a start later this month with the finals being held in May just before the children break for their summer vacation.

“The qualifying events will focus on testing technical and competitive skills of participants while offering them a platform to display their skills,” Ahmad Al Tayeb, Director, Technical and Sports Affairs, UAE NOC, noted.

Over the next few days, the UAE NOC will organize workshops, training programmes and site visits for officials involved with the organization of the UAE School Olympic Games.
